E-commerce on the rise: five bets for further growth in 2025

The growth of e-commerce is already a reality. This is because, while previously consumers preferred shopping in physical stores, today this reality is being challenged by a greater preference for online channels. Not surprisingly, according to the Brazilian Association of Electronic Commerce (ABComm), the segment grew by 10.5% in 2024, registering a revenue of R$ 204.3 billion. Given this significant representation, it is essential that the sector invests in the right strategies to support its performance.

For years, we have been witnessing the strength and expansion of e-commerce. This movement gained even more prominence, especially during the pandemic, when businesses had to adapt to the period of social isolation and migrate to platforms that would help meet the demands of the public.

However, while some merchants considered this a "temporary" measure, this argument is now refuted, given the widespread adoption of online shopping by customers. That is, more and more people are connected and using tools that contribute to speed and convenience when shopping. Furthermore, today's customer is more demanding and observant, requiring meticulous attention to detail.

In other words, more than just ensuring there are products to meet demand, it is essential that organizations operating in e-commerce and wanting to maximize their reach pay attention to five key aspects:

#1 Customer experience: customer service must be seamless and integrated across all channels. In other words, it's essential to guarantee personalized service that offers support, regardless of the digital medium the customer is using. This action ensures conversion to purchase and, consequently, customer loyalty.

#2 Omnichannel: Complementing the previous topic, it is essential that companies define how to integrate customer service channels. Whether in a physical or digital environment, the consumer needs to feel the same care and support, from choosing the product to being presented with the payment methods.

#3 Logistics: If the customer no longer wants to leave, the merchandise must reach them – but quickly. This is an efficient strategy that has been adopted by major players, such as Mercado Libre. Therefore, the organization needs to develop a logistics plan to meet deadlines and fulfill customer expectations.

#4 Inventory Management: There's no point in selling without the guarantee that the product is available. In other words, it's essential to integrate inventory data and information for better control of operations, whether physical or digital, to avoid stockouts.

#5 Artificial Intelligence: To ensure the effective execution of the previous trends, it is essential to have the support of technology. In this context, AI stands out as a strong trend, due to its versatility in supporting tasks ranging from the automation of functions, such as customer service, pattern and data analysis, to the definition of strategies such as operational control, security and compliance.

All these trends have in common the fact that they reinforce the importance of structuring operations. In this regard, having the support of robust and specialized solutions in this type of commercialization is essential, since they support all management, control and, above all, guarantee greater efficiency and quality.

Even though e-commerce has experienced explosive growth—and, for many organizations, in a disorganized way—this is a sector that will continue to expand, considering the current behaviors and preferences of the public. As proof of this, according to ABComm, this year the sector is expected to reach a revenue of R$ 224.7 billion, expanding by another 10% compared to 2024.

Therefore, those who haven't yet invested in creating a presence in the digital environment or who aren't seeking to implement outreach strategies will certainly fall behind. Thus, in addition to having the right resources, seeking the assistance of a specialized consultancy is an excellent step in defining the best path to follow.

We live in the digital age. While having a store in a strategic location once guaranteed sales success, now, in addition to that, it's necessary to be present online. As technology facilitates access, it's essential that retailers strive to keep up with this movement for better results. After all, the future isn't "just selling online," but offering a fluid, intelligent, and integrated experience to the consumer; retailers who don't adapt will likely lose ground.
