E-commerces recorded almost 90,000 fraud attempts during Father's Day 2025, according to a study by Serasa Experian

The period leading up to Father's Day 2025 raises an alert for consumers and companies in Brazilian e-commerce. According to an unprecedented survey by Serasa Experian, the first and largest datatech in Brazil and leader in anti-fraud solutions, almost 90 thousand (87,557) fraud attempts were recorded in e-commerces between July 27th and August 10th, the fifteen days leading up to the commemorative date. The data is equivalent to approximately 6 thousand occurrences per day or one attempt every 15 seconds.

The volume represented almost 4% of all fraud attempts recorded throughout 2025, reinforcing how commemorative dates with great commercial appeal can be exploited by criminals, who take advantage of the increase in online shopping, the search for promotions and the urgency of consumers when choosing gifts. The risk of fraud observed in the period was 1.1%, which means that, for every 100 transactions analyzed in electronic commerce, just over one showed signs of attempted fraud.

“Commemorative dates move digital retail and create important opportunities for companies and consumers, but they also increase exposure to scams and fraud. Fraudsters tend to take advantage of the greater volume of accesses, the rush to purchase and the search for offers to try to circumvent security systems. Therefore, prevention needs to be present throughout the entire journey, from user identification to transaction approval”, says the Director of Authentication and Fraud Prevention at Serasa Experian, Rodrigo Sanchez.

In addition to the volume of occurrences, the survey shows that fraudulent attempts had a higher average value than legitimate purchases. The average ticket for fraud was R$ 989.83, while that for legitimate transactions was R$ 547.53. The difference indicates that fraud attempts had a higher value of 80.8%.
