Companies are prepared for a digital blackout

Imagine starting work and discovering that the management system does not open, video conferences have been interrupted and not even issuing invoices works. In companies that depend on cloud systems, a few minutes without a connection are enough to interrupt the operation. According to the TIC Companies 2025 survey, released in June this year, 93% of Brazilian companies use optical fiber, 36% hire cloud services and 17% have already adopted artificial intelligence. The topic gained prominence this Monday (13), when the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) carried out a scheduled update to its technological infrastructure, with provision for temporary unavailability of some services, reinforcing the importance of planning to ensure the continuity of digital operations.

For José Miguel, Pre-Sales Manager at Unentel, many organizations still do not treat network infrastructure with the same priority as management systems or information security. “Today, practically everything depends on the internet. If the connection goes down, it's not just the email that stops working. Management systems, service platforms, telephony, cloud storage and financial processes can become unavailable at the same time. Many companies only realize this level of dependence when they face an interruption”, he says.

Preparation begins before the first failure. Measures that help reduce interruptions and keep operations running include:

• Have two internet connections from different providers. When the entire operation depends on a single supplier, any failure can interrupt the company's activities. By contracting links from different operators and configuring the infrastructure to automatically switch between them, it is possible to keep the systems running even during an outage.

• Use equipment prepared to automatically change the connection. Corporate routers and firewalls with failover and link balancing capabilities identify when a connection is unstable and direct traffic to the backup network in a few seconds, without the need for manual intervention from the IT team.

• Monitor the network continuously. Monitoring platforms allow you to monitor, in real time, infrastructure availability, performance and stability indicators. With this monitoring, the team can identify signs of failure before they affect customers, employees or essential systems.

• Define which systems need to continue functioning in the event of instability. Applications such as ERP, invoice issuance, IP telephony, financial platforms and service channels can receive priority in network traffic. Thus, even if the connection operates at reduced capacity, essential services remain available until the problem is resolved.

• Review the infrastructure whenever the operation grows. Adopting new cloud tools, artificial intelligence solutions, or business expansion requires a reassessment of network capacity. This review helps identify bottlenecks, update equipment and ensure that the infrastructure keeps up with the pace of the business.

Companies that invest in redundancy, monitoring and planning are able to reduce response time and keep the operation running even in the face of a failure”, concludes the expert.
