Getnet launches strategy for the ERA of“Agentic Commerce”: when AI makes the purchases for you

The way we consume online is about to undergo a radical transformation, and Getnet, the global payments fintech of Grupo Santander, today announced its strategy to lead this change Agentic Commerce (Agent Trade), an emerging model where AI software not only suggests products, but initiates, trades and completes purchases autonomously on behalf of users.

The Getnet movement anticipates a massive market trend.According to a report prepared by the company in partnership with Deloitte, it is estimated that up to 30% of the value transacted in global e-commerce is influenced by AI agents by 2030.

This represents a GMV (Gross Merchandise Value or Gross Volume of Goods) potential for US$ 17.5 trillion. for the payments industry, the challenge is technical and security: to adapt systems designed for humans so that they can process transactions made by robots with the same reliability.

How's it gonna work?

Getnet's strategy is based on its existing global platform, the Single Entry Point (SEP). From this unified API, the company is developing new layers of technology to enable trade via AI:

  • Agent Identification: Mechanisms to distinguish whether the buyer is a human or an AI.
  • Validation and Security: Protocols to ensure that the AI agent has legitimate consumer permission to spend that money.
  • Standard APIs: Connections that allow you to capture payments initiated by machines in a fluid way.
  • Interoperability: Integration between different digital ecosystems, allowing an AI from one platform to buy on another without friction.

The goal is to offer a “plug and play” solution, accessible to both large digitized retailers and small and medium-sized businesses that lack the resources to develop complex in-house technology.
