Afya announces investment in CareOn, a healthtech company that connects doctors and other healthcare professionals to hospitals, clinics, and laboratories. The startup joins Afya's Corporate Venture Capital (CVC) portfolio, which has already invested in companies such as Marisa.Care, Caveo, Lean Saúde, and Wellbe in the last two years.
CareOn's main area of operation is offering on-call and permanent positions through its own app. In addition to this format, the company also provides a personalized consulting service, supporting institutions in forming medical teams for more complex projects.
In practice, the platform connects healthcare institutions that need to fill permanent positions and staffing with professionals at different career levels seeking opportunities aligned with their profile and availability. The entire process is conducted within the CareOn app, which centralizes job postings, applications, and hiring tracking.
Founded in 2021 in Belo Horizonte by two entrepreneurial sisters, the startup now serves major hospitals in the Southeast region of Brazil. Since its inception, it has published over 100,000 job openings, of which approximately 6,000 were in December 2025 alone, and has contributed to the care of more than 5 million patients nationwide.
Beyond its job platform, CareOn has structured a digital ecosystem focused on the professional journey of healthcare professionals. In this context, the app offers continuing education through CareOn Academy. Currently, CareOn has over 40,000 registered physicians and recorded revenue growth exceeding 160% from 2024 to 2025.
“We started by solving a very specific problem, which is the difficulty of organizing and giving visibility to on-call opportunities. Over time, we realized that we could support healthcare professionals more broadly, integrating work and training into a single platform,” says Fernanda Vieira, co-founder and CEO of CareOn. “Afya’s entry accelerates this movement and strengthens our capacity for national expansion, in addition to expanding synergies with an ecosystem that is already present at different points in the medical journey.”
The funds raised will be directed towards the geographic expansion of the company, which is currently concentrated in the Southeast region, focusing on expanding its base of institutions, strengthening its presence in new markets, and evolving the application.
For Afya, the investment reinforces its strategy of supporting solutions that bring efficiency to the healthcare system and expand the value proposition for physicians.
“CareOn operates at a structural point in the sector: the organization of the healthcare labor market, especially in on-call shifts, a segment that still largely operates with low formality, with informal WhatsApp groups as its main competitor. By digitizing this connection, the company generates efficiency for institutions and demand for doctors,” says Marcos Coelho, Director of M&A and CVC at Afya.
Expansion of the CVC and consolidation of the innovation strategy
The investment in CareOn is part of Afya's strategy to consolidate a portfolio of startups with high strategic and financial potential in the medium and long term. The goal is to identify solutions that address real pain points in the medical journey, expand the company's value proposition, and bring efficiency gains to healthcare providers and operators.
With this new venture, Afya expands its operations in solutions geared towards professional practice, complementing its portfolio of medical education and practice, and reinforcing its position as one of the main drivers of innovation in the Brazilian healthcare ecosystem.
