Shopee, a marketplace connecting sellers and consumers, recorded a growth of over 50% in sales of electronics on August 8th, compared to the same date last year. Among the main items of interest to consumers, televisions registered more than 12,000 orders. This performance reinforces the consolidation of double dates on the platform as increasingly anticipated events for users.
“In six years in Brazil, we have held more than 68 double-date events and distributed more than R$ 420 million in coupons in these campaigns. These numbers reinforce Shopee's strength in connecting sellers, major brands, and consumers through an easy, safe, and fun shopping experience,” said Felipe Piringer, marketing director at Shopee.
Besides electronics, the household goods and tools category was a major highlight on that date, exceeding 179,000 items sold. Among the most sought-after products—often chosen as gifts for Father's Day—high-pressure washers, electric screwdrivers, welding machines, and wrench sets stand out.
The celebratory family atmosphere also boosted sales of one-off items: beer barrels registered a single peak on that date, with a 197-fold compared to the usual average.
Social Commerce
The Social Commerce pillar also broke records during 8.8. With over 33,000 live streams held on that date , Shopee Lives registered a jump of over 80% in order volume compared to the previous edition (7.7).
Interesting facts about 8.8
The campaign, which distributed R$18 million in coupons, revealed curious trends in Brazilian shopping carts. The top sellers in terms of volume were: 5L fabric softener and cotton towel sets.
With the conclusion of August 8th, Shopee Brazil is preparing to continue its calendar of double-date events for the second half of the year with September 9th Super Shopping Day.
