Rio de Janeiro has established itself as a crucial logistics hub for Brazilian e-commerce by 2025, with Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) leading in the volume of goods shipped. A recent study reveals that the state has surpassed major players in terms of shipment share, highlighting the strength and growing professionalization of small and medium-sized businesses in the digital landscape.
Performance of SMEs in Rio de Janeiro's E-commerce
The fourth quarter of 2025 positioned Rio de Janeiro as the fourth largest state in terms of merchandise shipment volume by SMEs, representing 8% of national shipments in this segment. This performance was superior to that of large brands, which accounted for 6% in the same period. The Loggi study, released in February 2026, analyzed delivery data from the last quarter of 2025 and presented an unprecedented annual balance.
Rio de Janeiro as a Logistics Hub
Considering the total volume of shipments in the fourth quarter of 2025, Rio de Janeiro stood out as the sixth state with the highest number of packages shipped, reinforcing its strategic importance in national logistics. Looking at the annual figures, the leading role of SMEs in Rio de Janeiro was even more evident, with the state being the third state with the highest volume of shipments made by small and medium-sized businesses throughout the year.
The Strength of the Southeast and Logistics Innovation
The Southeast region has consolidated its position as the national leader in the volume of shipments made by SMEs, reflecting the maturity of regional e-commerce and the increasing professionalization of entrepreneurs. In 2025, a structural change was observed in SME operations: the use of Collection Points (PUDOs) increased sevenfold compared to 2024, accounting for 33% of shipments, while traditional collection still represents 67%.
Impact of Holidays and Consumer Preferences
Holidays had a significant impact on e-commerce performance. During Christmas week, the total volume of shipments grew by 45% for SMEs, and on Black Friday, the increase was 57% for all business sizes. In the Southeast region, the most traded products in 2025 were cosmetics and perfumes, followed by clothing and fashion, electronics, and computers.
Increased Consumer Demands
The Brazilian e-commerce market in 2025 proved to be increasingly competitive, with over 47 million kilometers traveled in delivery operations. Consumer demand also raised service standards, with 45% of deliveries completed within two days and 57% within three days.
