Sumsub announces solution to monitor Pix transactions and combat sophisticated fraud

The popularization of Pix has transformed the way Brazilians make payments, but it has also brought new challenges for banks, fintechs, and payment institutions. Because transactions are completed in seconds and, in most cases, are irreversible, identifying fraud attempts before the transaction is settled has become a priority for the financial sector.

To support institutions in this scenario, Sumsub, the first AI-based trust infrastructure for compliance operations at scale, announces Pix Fraud Monitoring, a new solution developed specifically for the Brazilian instant payment ecosystem. The tool brings together 39 pre-configured and customizable rules to identify common fraud patterns in Pix transactions, accelerating the implementation of monitoring controls without companies needing to develop rules from scratch.

The launch comes at a time of strong expansion of Pix in Brazil. According to the Central Bank, more than 170 million Brazilians have already used the instant payment system, which registered more than 7 billion transactions in January 2026 alone. As the volume of operations grows, so does the need for solutions capable of monitoring transactions in real time and identifying suspicious behavior before transfers are completed.

The urgency of specialized solutions is reinforced by data from Sumsub's latest Identity Fraud Report 2025-2026 . In Latin America, 31% of users have already been approached to act as "money mules," moving funds of fraudulent origin, often unknowingly. In Brazil, deepfake fraud has grown by 126%, highlighting a scenario where scams are becoming increasingly sophisticated and require prevention mechanisms capable of keeping pace with the speed of transactions.

“We developed Pix Fraud Monitoring based on conversations with Brazilian partners and institutions, who face the daily challenges posed by instant payments. The market needed a solution built specifically for the reality of Pix, capable of keeping up with the speed of transactions and responding to the increasingly sophisticated strategies used by fraudsters,” says Georgia Sanches, Country Manager of Sumsub in Brazil.

Integrated into Sumsub's fraud prevention platform, the solution combines transaction information, DICT (Directory of Transactional Account Identifiers) data, and behavioral analysis to identify atypical operations. Among the main scenarios monitored are the splitting of amounts (smurfing), rapidly spreading scams, transactions through money mule accounts, and unusual patterns of transactional behavior.

The rules can be used immediately or adapted according to the risk strategy, customer profile, and operational needs of each institution. Thus, each organization has control over what is monitored and greater flexibility to track the evolution of fraud attempts in the Pix ecosystem.
